Reaching People...Changing Lives

The Wednesday Night Dinners have been discontinued for now. We will let you know when the dinners start back up!
CHU’S SEPTEMBER SCHEDULE (For Our Youth)
September 1st at 6:00 p.m. - CHU resumes with a Welcome Back Party!
Summer Reading…This fall we will be focusing on the book The Prodigal God, by Timothy Keller; with a six-week sermon series and study program based on the book. We encourage Sunday School Classes and small groups to use this as their curriculum; an excellent DVD and participant guides are available. Please contact Pastor Sue for more information.
MEALS ON WHEELS DRIVERS NEEDED! FUMC is responsible for delivering weekday meals to clients at Trinity Villas near NW 36th Ave. and SR 40. There are elevators in the apartment buildings so there are no stairs to climb. If you have about 1 1/2 hours to spare one morning each month, please call Neil and Betty Williams at 854-7757. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve God and our community.
ACOLYTES AND CRUCIFERS ARE NEEDED All youth in grades 3rd through 12th are welcome to serve in this vital part of our worship service for the 2010-2011 school year. Training will be provided. For more information or if your child is interested in serving, contact Karen Perry by phone at 624-0766 or by email, at Gatrmommy@aol.com.
FUMC COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Marion County Jail Re-Entry Program needs toiletry items for released men and women, and children’s books for them to give their children when returning home. Boxes will be labeled and placed in the Family Life Center.
USHERS ARE NEEDED
8:30 a.m. Ushers are needed. To volunteer or for more information please contact John Bledsoe at 622-3322 or Al Tomek at 629-1970.
Covenant Group will resume Wednesday, September 8th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 Noon, in Room 39. Our study book is by John Ortberg - If You Want to Walk on Water, You’ve Got to Get Out of the Boat. Ortberg has a gift for sharing profound insights with humor and well-spun stories. We have an “open chair” policy - so if you’re new to FUMC or just looking for a connecting group - come join us. We meet once a month on the second Wednesday to study and connect with each other and strive to build a relationship with Jesus Christ. We learn - laugh - love and support. Need more information, call Arlene Koenig at 694-1640.
NEEDS OF INTERFAITH
Interfaith is in need of office volunteers for the summer. If you can volunteer three hours per week - please contact Nita at 629-8868. Interfaith also needs the following hygiene items: shampoo, deodorant, bar soap, toilet paper, tooth paste, tooth brushes, razors, diapers (all sizes), baby wipes and combs. Bring your donations by the Church Office.
In an effort to cut costs First Church plans on sending the quarterly statements, beginning with the third quarter statement, by email. Please provide us with your email address(es). If you don’t have email access, please advise us so that we can put you on our mailing list.
REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE…Did you notice the baskets in the Narthex of the Sanctuary and the bins in the Family Life Center? As part of our emphasis on Caring for Creation, United Methodist Women of FUMC are encouraging our congregation to participate in reducing paper use in our church office by reusing the printed inserts from the church bulletins when the announcements are repeated for several weeks. We are also encouraging recycling of the bulletins after the services. Please help us by placing paper for which you do not have a further use in one of these containers. Thanks for helping!
In an effort to keep the Sunday Bulletin and the Messenger current the following guidelines are suggested. No announcements should run more than three times. If the announcement is to run more than once the article should be written in parts. The first printing should state what, when, who and where, the second printing should contain what, when, who, where and a short description of your announcement and the third printing should contain the entire announcement. The person submitting the announcement should write all the articles. To submit your announcements, please do one of the following: 1) e-mail Sue at sue@fumcocala.org, 2) mail your announcement to the Church Office (40 SE 11th Ave., Ocala, FL 34471 or 3) drop off your announcement to the Church Office.
For those having difficulty hearing during our 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Worship Services in the Sanctuary, there are hearing aids available. Please ask an usher for assistance, they will be happy to help you.
